With serious testing and new warranties it is thought by many that refurbished components are almost as good as new ones, it is becoming more popular each day to buy refurbished laptops and components.
Thanks to a new component warranty and in depth testing before it is shipped, it is believed by many that refurbished components are almost as good as a brand new one. There are those who disagree however so lets look at the arguments for both sides.
Refurbished laptops that you can find on the market can be argued by many to be almost as good as a new one, this is because those refurbished components that go into the device usually come from laptops that were found to have minor issues during testing, and so they are used for their component parts on the refurb market. With this in mine a refurbished laptop may very well be as good as a brand new one, although there are times when this is not the case that will be looked at in a little while.
However there are those who argue that refurbished laptops are not worth the risk, although you may get a good quality component there is the chance you can get a bad one, this component could have a knock on effect to other components inside the laptop and it may even work fine for a certain time period although once out of the warranty time it will malfunction, costing you money in repairs, or even if it breaks during the warranty period you will likely not have access to a replacement laptop while it is being repaired, meaning you are left without a computer for however long it takes. You may lose data due to this component which is another issue.
As mentioned however there are drawbacks, you may find you get a refurbished laptop with a damaged refurbished component inside that threatens the stability of the entire system, it may even damage other components, this could very easily occur outside of the shortened warranty period you get with refurbs and therefore leave you out of pocket. Even if it does occur during a period in which it can be fixed you will likely not have access to a replacement laptop during this time, so you may be left without something you rely on for work or other important tasks.
Refurbished laptops that merely have cosmetic damage are usually a great option because the components inside are fine it is just the casing that has the issue, which could be something as tiny as a little scratch on the case. If you are getting a refurbished laptop, make sure you get one that comes with a warranty period of at least 6 months.
